Obituary

William L. "Bill" Wiand , age 91 of Elwood, passed away on Feb. 15, 2024 at The Waters of Clinton in Clinton, Tennessee after a long, full life.  He was born Oct. 27, 1932 in Elwood, the son of Arando and Grace Mae (Clymer) Wiand.  Bill was a 1950 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood and later received a Bachelor's Degree from Midland Institute in Midland, Michigan.  He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard and made this his career.  He was an Executive Officer of the 113th Medical Battalion with the National Guard serving for 43 years and retiring in 1992.  He served during both the Vietnam and Korean Wars in several capacities including S3 in the 138th Cavalry Squadron, Executive Officer in the 1293rd Infantry Battalion, and Sergeant Major in the Division Headquarters.

Bill married Paula Jean Reid on November 11, 1954, and they shared 36 years of marriage together before her passing in 1990.  Bill was a former member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Elwood.  He was also a member of the Noblesville Moose Lodge and the Cicero American Legion.  Bill never knew a stranger and enjoyed conversations with everyone he met.  He volunteered for many years at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood.  He especially enjoyed playing poker and bowling through the years.  Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bill's family includes a daughter, Michele Lyn (Vincent, Jr.) McMahan of Andersonville, TN; son, Kevin G. Wiand of Bloomington, IL; 3 grandchildren, Cindy Johnson, Davina McMahan, and Tami McMahan; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Darlene Wiand of Elwood; and several nieces and nephews.  Bill was preceded in death by both his parents; beloved wife, Paula; and two brothers, Paul Wiand and John Wiand.

Cremation will take place.  There will be no formal services, and burial will take place privately with the family.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
