William D. Rebuck, Jr. , age 77 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away gently on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at Elwood Health and Living following an extended illness. He was born May 22, 1948 in Elwood the son of William and Elizabeth J. (Dillon) Rebuck. Bill was a 1966 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School, and furthered his education at Ball State University earning a Masters degree in teaching. He was incredibly intelligent and taught chemistry for over 30 years at Taylor High School where he truly enjoyed interacting with students. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood.
A lifelong learner, Bill's passion for knowledge extended far beyond the classroom as he enjoyed science, studying calculus theory, and reading journals extensively - always seeking to deepen his understanding of science. He was a longtime member of the Indiana Geological Society as well as the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. As an adult, Bill was a serious bicycle rider and had great affection for animals and his beloved family pets. He treasured spending time with his family, especially time spent with his mother in her later years when they would dine together almost daily. All of Bill's nieces and nephews were dear to him. Bill will be remembered for his intelligence, his love of learning, and his devotion to his family. He joins many beloved family members in Heaven.
Bill's family includes 3 brothers, James "Jim" (Sherry) Rebuck of Elwood, Joseph (Sue) Rebuck of Elwood, and Daniel (Shaunacee) Rebuck of Gas City; sister-in-law, Jo Anne Rebuck of Elwood; and several beloved nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard "Rick" Rebuck.
Bill's wishes were to have private family viewing and services. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery in Elwood. Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Elwood Animal Shelter in honor of Bill's love of animals. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
