Obituary

William E. "Bill" Durham , age 91 of Elwood, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton following an extended illness, but a long well-lived life.  He was born November 13, 1929 in Tipton County, the son of Clarence Arthur and Vernece (Tomlinson) Durham.  Bill graduated from Tipton High School in 1948, and while in high school he was active in many different sports and clubs.  He married Virginia E. Ewing on May 27, 1961 and they shared over 41 years of marriage together until her passing on January 2, 2003.  Bill proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-1952 during the Korean War.  While in the air force, Bill was a member of the fencing team.  Bill worked as an oiler for Delco Electronics in Kokomo for over 30 years until he retired in 1983.  He enjoyed all types of hunting and shooting different types of guns.  Bill loved to clean and restore guns, and he especially liked to make and load his own bullets.  He also liked flying his radio controlled airplane and was a member of the Madison County R.C. Flyer's Club.  Bill's family finds comfort knowing he is reunited with his wife again in Heaven.

Bill's family includes 3 nephews, Stan (wife Nancy) Durham of Elwood, Jeff (wife Lisa) Durham of Elwood, and Steve (wife Marla) Durham of Elwood; niece, Sarah (husband Larry) Hillwig of Florida; great-nephew, Nathan (wife Ajay) Durham of Elwood; several great nephews and great nieces; and numerous other extended family members.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia Durham; 2 brothers, Robert A. Durham and Donald L. Durham; and a nephew, Perry Durham.

A funeral service celebrating Bill's life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 24, 2021 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Scott Blaylock of Life Church in Elwood officiating.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the service on Friday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Entombment will follow the funeral at the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum, and military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Air Force and Elwood V.F.W. honor guard.  Health precautions for the safety of all visitors are appreciated.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
