Obituary

William K. Davies, age 88 of Elwood, died Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Indiana Heart Hospital in Indianapolis following an extended illness. He was born August 10, 1923 in Elwood, the son of Jenkin J. and Pearl (Hurst) Davies. He worked at Delco Remy in Anderson for 41 years, and retired from the shipping department in 1982. He was a 1941 graduate of Elwood High School, and later served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. While serving in the military, Bill was active in the second wave of combat on the beaches of Normandy and bravely fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He married the love of his life, Jeanne D. Debethune on November 20, 1942. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elwood, and formerly a member of the U.A.W. #662. Bill was a very active and dedicated member of the Quincy Masonic Lodge in Elwood where he was a Past Master of the lodge, and had served as treasurer of the lodge for over 50 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason; a member of the Scottish Rite; and member of the Murat Shriners Club. Bill was an avid craftsman, and enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include: 3 children, Sheila (Bill) Hobson of Elwood, Vicki (Kim) Caldwell of Kokomo, and Bill (Suzanne) Davies of Schaumburg, IL; sister, Lucille Barnes of Elwood; 5 grandchildren, Renee (Rich) Lynch, Julie (Kyle) Wiley, Stacey (Blaine) Paul, Lindsey (Guy) Curry, and Nicole Davies; 8 great-grandchildren, Jacqueline Lynch, Victoria Lynch, Allison Lynch, Garrett Wiley, Kayleigh Wiley, Logan Paul, Brynn Paul, and Skye Curry; 2 nieces, Leesa (Tony) Huddleston and Cheri Davies; 2 nephews Martin Davies and Tim Davies; and special cousin, Deral Ann Beckley of Elwood.

Bill
was preceded in death by his parents; Wife of 65 years who died February 16, 2008, Jeanne D. (Debethune) Davies; brother, Jack Davies; and sister, Velma Porter.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with a Masonic Lodge Memorial Service first followed by Rev. Cindy Osgood officiating. Entombment will follow at the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum in Elwood where full military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Military and the Elwood V.F.W. Honor Guard teams. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Vincent Mercy Hospital Foundation or the Shriners Children's Hospital through the funeral home.
