William "Bill" Blake, age 73 of Elwood, died Monday, October 28, 2013 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood after an extended illness. He was born June 14, 1940 in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Ralph and Wilhelmina (Yde) Blake. He retired in 2002 from Delco Remy Corporation in Anderson where he worked in production for more than 38 years. Bill was a 1957 graduate of Milford High School and later received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Ball State University. Bill married Teresa J. McCorkle on March 7, 1988. He was a member of the Elwood Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Bill was also a member of the United Auto Workers Union # 662. He was formerly an avid tennis player and active in a tennis club. One of Bill's biggest joys was grooming his yard and maintaining his beautiful home. Recently, he enjoyed working crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble. Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cared deeply for his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Bill's family includes his wife of more than 25 years, Teresa J. (McCorkle) Blake of Elwood; 6 children, Mark (wife Nancy) Robbins of Indianapolis, Lisa (husband Chris) Oakes of Middletown, John (wife Susan) Blake of Pendleton, Mary Blake of Middletown, Chris (wife Daphne) Noone of Elwood, and Amber Noone of Fishers; sister, Kae Schleicher; 8 grandchildren, Brittany Robbins, Brigham Robbins, Lauren Figg, Darin Figg, Allison Blake, Victoria Blake, Jessie Noone, and Taylor Noone; in-laws, Hershel and Mary "Maxine" McCorkle of Elwood; nephew, Scott (wife Julie) Schleicher of San Francisco, CA; and good friend and caregiver, David Kelich. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Katherine Marie Blake; and son-in-law, Ronnie Figg.
A funeral and celebration of Bill's life will be conducted at 6:00 PM on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with President Terry Hartman of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints presiding. A graveside service and burial will take place on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 6 PM Friday, November 1, 2013 prior to the funeral service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
