Obituary

William C. "Bill" Hunt , age 59 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2025 surrounded by his family at home after an extended illness.  He was born April 27, 1965 in Elwood, the son of William E. and Norma (Bristow) Hunt.  Bill was a member of the class of 1983 at Elwood High School.  He worked for the City of Elwood Street Department for 13 years, but he had to retire in 2024 due to health challenges.  Bill also formerly worked for the State of Indiana Highway Department in Tipton for 9 years.  He married Monna (Wright) on July 5, 1996, and they shared over 28 years of marriage together.

Bill was a devoted Christian and attended theological training to become a pastor later in life.  He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed fishing, hunting with his daughter Cheyenne, and camping with family.  Bill especially loved spending time at his cabin-like home and caring for his property.  Nothing was more special than family gatherings on his large front porch.  Bill played the guitar and drums; enjoyed country and gospel music; and formerly played in a local band with his good friends.  He will be remembered as a respected husband, father, and grandpa who truly adored his family.  Bill has entered the gates of Heaven and was welcomed home by a host of family members.

Bill's family includes his wife, Monna Hunt of Elwood; two daughters, Cheyenne Hunt (Logan Borders) of Elwood and Devon Hunt (Clay Zerbe) of Marion; step-son, Steve Callaway of Elwood; 3 siblings, Jodi Loar of Elwood, Patty (Joe) Miller of Elwood, and Jerry Skoczylas of Elwood; 3 grandchildren, Mary, Alana, and Brandon; 3 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Roberta Hankley of Elwood; and beloved dog and companion, Dozer.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael Hankley; and two brothers-in-law, Tom Loar and Larry Jones.

A funeral service celebrating Bill's life and faith will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Chaplain Rob Mifflin of Paradigm Hospice, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 11 am to 1 pm prior to the funeral on Tuesday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Morrisett Center Food Pantry.  Online condolence and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
