William J. "Bill" Conwell , Jr., age 96 of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024 at I.U. Health-Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie after a brief illness, but a long, full life.  He was born May 8, 1927 in Elwood, the son of William J. and Ethel (Goodwin) Conwell, Sr.  Bill was a 1945 graduate of Elwood High School.  He married Joy Holmquist on June 2, 1946 and they shared over 51 years of marriage together until her passing in 1997.  Bill retired from the U.S. Government - U.S.D.A in May of 1989 where he worked as a food inspector for over 10 years.  He also previously worked as a food inspector for the state of Michigan.  Bill especially liked bowling, golfing, and playing cards.

Bill's family includes 2 children, Bill (Blanca) Conwell of El Paso, TX and Toni (James) Ritsema of Houston, TX; 3 granddaughters, Heather, Aimee, and Blanca; and a great-granddaughter, Sofia.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joy Conwell; and two sisters, Patricia Fitzpatrick and Dorothy "Dottie" Conwell who passed away at the age of four.

Cremation will take place and burial will be held privately at a later date in the Elwood City Cemetery.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
