Willard L
Lindsay, Sr.
Jan 9, 1946 — May 18, 2018
Willard L. Lindsay, Sr., age 72 of Elwood, passed away Friday, May 18, 2018 at his son's residence following an unexpected and sudden illness. He was born January 9, 1946 in Anderson, the son of Richard Lindsay and Erma (Smith) Jones. Willard worked most recently as a mechanic for Morgan Automotive in Chesterfield for 3 years, and had previously worked for Precision Transmission in Anderson for 18 years. He married Ellen Summers in 1974, and they shared 40 years of marriage together before her passing on December 27, 2014. Willard loved working on all types of cars, and he especially liked to do "burnouts" in his car. During his younger years, he would drag race his 1968 Ford Torino, and loved the thrill of racing. He also liked airplanes, both working on them and flying in them. Willard was known as a jack-of-all-trades, tinkering in anything he could get his hands on. While he was staying at Community Parkview Care Center, he liked to "flirt" and tease with his favorite nurses who absolutely adored him. More than anything, Willard will be remembered for how much he loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who called him "Grumple".
Willard's family includes 4 children, Tammy (husband John) Stinson of Elwood, Tina (husband James) Martin of Alexandria, Willard Lindsay, Jr. of Elwood, and Eddy (wife Sheree) Lindsay of Elwood; 5 step-children, Pamela (husband Rick) Drinkurt of Shelbyville, Paula Hendee of Brownsburg, LaTrisha Bergfield of Elwood, Tommy (wife Connie) Bryant of Anderson, and Robert (wife Heather) Bryant of Anderson; 4 sisters, Mary Schuyler of New Castle, Cathy Carter of Elwood, Sheryl Scrogg of Arizona, and Rosella Carmichael of North Vernon; 2 brothers, Vigil Adams of Bowlingreen, and Steve Lindsay of Anderson; 23 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Willard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ellen Lindsay; 2 brothers, Gerald Lindsay and Eddie Smith; and an infant step-daughter.
