Vonetta G. "Jean" Beckett , age 78 of Anderson and formerly of Elwood, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 3, 2023 with her family by her side after many health challenges.  She was born July 10, 1945 in Elwood, the daughter of Thomas Eugene and Clara Belle (Tompkins) Beckett.  Jean was raised in the Methodist Church and attended college for two years after high school.  She served in the U.S. Marine Corps stateside as a drill instructor during the Vietnam War, and she was a proud veteran.  Jean worked at Airfoil Textron for 25 years in production and inspection and retired in 1992.  She enjoyed gardening, flowers, working in her yard, reading, and watching football.  Jean has been made healthy again and reunited with her family in Heaven.

Jean's family includes her half-sister, Sarah Heffelmire of Anderson and beloved dog, "Gypsy".  She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Anne.

Jean's wishes were to be cremated.  A private celebration of life will held with Chaplain Rob Mifflin officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Madison County Humane Society to honor Jean's love of animals.  Copher-Fesler-May funeral home has been entrusted with Jean's arrangements.  Online condolences may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
