Virginia S. "Ginnie" Carpenter , age 95 of Elwood, passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Elwood Health & Living Assisted Living after a long, full life. She was born January 29, 1926 in Anderson, the daughter of Wyatt M. and Beulah V. (Dever) Silvey. Virginia married Harold Ray Carpenter on April 16, 1949 and they shared over 53 years of marriage together before his passing in 2002. She worked in production at Guide Lamp division of General Motors in Anderson for over 42 years before retirement in 1987. Virginia was a devoted member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Elwood where she enjoyed being active in Sunday school. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, U.A.W. #663, and Indiana Phi Masters. Virginia and Harold enjoyed spending many memorable winters in Okeechobee, Florida. Virginia will be remembered for always having a smile on her face and going out of her way to be friendly with everyone she met.
Virginia's family includes her son, Ray L. (Christine) Carpenter of Miami, Florida; sister-in-law, Carol (husband Monte) Kleyla of Elwood; and special nieces, Sara Christman, Joan Songco, and Judy Johnson. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Carpenter; brother-in-law, Horace Carpenter; sister-in-law, Mary Carpenter; and good friend, Richard Bannon.
A funeral service celebrating Virginia's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home with Pastor Rodney Ellis officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be held for family and friends from 12:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the funeral on Wednesday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. Health precautions for the safety of the family and visitors are greatly appreciated. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Missionary Baptist Church.
