Obituary

Virginia Grace (Underwood) Cain, age 91 of Elwood, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood after an extended illness. She was born on March 15, 1922 in Champaign, IL, the daughter of Edward and Grace (Todd) Underwood. She was a homemaker. Virginia attended schools in Ohio until her senior year when she moved to Indiana and graduated from Alamo High School. She married Bernard Earl Cain on March 2, 1946. She was a member of East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood for over 60 years where she was involved in the Golden Circle Class and the Esther Circle. She was also a member of the 50-Plus Club, Les Bonnes Amies Home Extension Club, YMCA Senior Members, and formerly the Lady Elks. Virginia was devoted to her family. She enjoyed cooking, camping, and traveling to 48 of the United States.

Virginia's family includes 3 children, Judith Ann (Tom) Piemme of Surprise, AZ, Roger Alan (Linda) Cain of Elwood, and David Alvin Cain of Alexandria; 3 grandchildren, Stacy (Phil) Savage of Anderson, Jenny (Andy) Carmack of Elwood, and Josh Cain of Fishers; 3 step-grandchildren, Geoff (Cathleen) Piemme of Washington, D.C., Jennifer Piemme of Boston, MA, and Karen Piemme of San Jose, CA; 6 great-grandchildren, Erika Smith, Devon Smith, Jessica Moore, Austin Moore, Aidan Carmack, and Lukas Carmack; 4 step great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Maggie, Lucy, and Alicia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of nearly 50 years who died October 15, 1995, Bernard Earl Cain; sister, Julia Kenneman; brother, Virgil Underwood; granddaughter, Kristy Moore; and great-grandson, Travis Moore.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of the East Main Street Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will held 2 to 5 PM Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
