Viola C. Knotts, age 92 of Elwood, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood after an extended illness. She was born March 23, 1920 in Elwood, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Ferguson) Brown. She attended Elwood schools. Viola married Leroy E. Knotts on August 1, 1936. She was a farmwife and homemaker for more than 60 years. She was a member of the Main Street Wesleyan Church in Elwood, and had formerly been a member of Salem Baptist Church in Windfall where she taught Sunday school classes for many years. Viola loved farming and raising chickens and selling their eggs. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a caregiver to her family and friends. Viola enjoyed reading gardening and was a very good cook.
She is survived by daughter-in-law, Sandie Knotts; 5 grandchildren, Darling (Jeff) Boyland of Frankton, Diana (Hector) Knotts of Texas, Audie (Pam) Wells of Illinois, Tawny (Jeff) McDaniel of Elwood, and Daphnie (Monty) Sheets of Elwood; great-grandchildren, Matthew (Lee) Boyland of Elwood, Cory Boyland of Elwood, Brittany Boyland of Muncie, Josh Wells of Florida, Ashley Wells of Illinois, Zach Wells of Illinois, Audra (Rob) Jarrell of Elwood, Adam (Christina) Boyland of Middletown, Christopher (Jacquelyn) Vest of Florida, and Shelby Johns of Elwood; great-great-grandchildren, Maximus Boyland of Elwood, Kelsey Jarrell and Kyle Jarrell of Elwood, Zayne Boyland and Zach Boyland of Middletown, Jayden Vest and Austin Vest of Florida; and several nieces and nephews; great nieces and great-nephews; adopted grandchildren; and friends and family at Community Parkview Care Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 38 years, Leroy E. Knotts who died January 4, 1975; son, Charles Knotts; siblings, Hazel Wise, Bert Boyer, Violet Fiscus, and Joseph Brown; and daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Knotts.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral home with Rev. Stan Alvey and Pastor Greg Boyland, both of the Charity Inn Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8:00 PM of Friday August 3, 2012 at the Funeral Home.
