Victor Dean Maish, age 78 of Elwood, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following several health complications, but a rewarding life. He was born on October 11, 1937 in Elwood to Cloyd and Laura (Reppart) Maish. Vic worked as a Crane Operator for Fisher Body Division of General Motors in Marion for 30 years and retired in 1993. He attended Elwood schools. He married Ruth Bertram on December 28, 1957, and they were blessed with 59 of marriage together.
Vic was proud to have served in the Army National Guard as a young adult. He was a devoted member and former Elder of the Elwood Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Elwood, and was also a member of the United Auto Workers Union #977 in Marion. Vic was an avid motorcycle and car enthusiast, and especially enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He loved singing karaoke whenever possible, and enjoyed numerous memorable cruises with Ruth. Vic also enjoyed fellowship with all his friends at McDonalds each morning, and also liked golfing. He will always be remembered for never knowing a stranger, and was being a friend to everyone. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and church family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Maish of Elwood; 4 children, Vickie (husband Alan) Muey of Alexandria, Michael D. Maish of Kokomo, Melissa (husband Michael) Massey of New Haven, and Rachel Harris (Fiance' Montana Goens) of Elwood; 5 brothers, Junior Maish of Elwood, Ron Maish of Wabash, Don Maish of Elwood, Bill Maish of Aurora, IL, and Bob Maish of Mississippi, 3 grandchildren, Alan Michael Muey, Avery Massey, and Quentin Massey; 2 great-grandchildren, Layla Muey and Tye Muey; 2 sisters-in-law, Marilyn (husband Jack) Koger and Anita (husband David) Davies; 2 brothers-in-law, Ron Bertram and Don Bertram; and several nieces and nephews. Vic was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Larry Maish and Lloyd Maish.
A Memorial Service for Victor will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Elwood Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness's, 1030 S. SR 37, Elwood, IN 46036 with Brother Steven Hilderbrand of the church officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:30 to 7:00 pm on Monday, September 12, 2016 prior to the memorial service at the Elwood Kingdom Hall. Burial will take place at a later date in the Russiaville Cemetery in Russiaville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elwood Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at the address above.
