Obituary

Velma L. Heflin, age 92 of North Manchester and formerly of Elwood, died Monday, February 14, 2011 at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester following a brief illness. She was born July 17, 1918 in Elwood, Indiana. She was a Homemaker most of her life, and also formerly worked as a seamstress making curtains and drapes. She married James R. Heflin on May 29, 1937. She was formerly a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Elwood. She enjoyed sewing.

She is survived by: Son - Danny and wife Christina Heflin of North Manchester; Daughter – Pamela and husband James Ervin of Frazer, PA; 3 Brothers – Ivan and wife Betty Crull of Elwood, Bill and wife Ann Crull of South Dakota, Frances Crull of Elwood; 2 Sisters – Jane Manghelli of Oregon and Eva Hollowell of Alabama; 12 Grandchildren; 13 Great-Grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her Parents – William and Sophie May Barnes; Husband who died October 10, 2001 – James R. Heflin; and 2 Daughters – Brenda Street and Peggy Tomlinson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with family member, Alan Crull officiating. Burial will take place in Cook Cemetery in New Lancaster. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday, February 19, 2011 prior to the funeral service.
