Jul 14, 1944 — Jun 17, 2026
Troy Lee Rich , age 81, of Elwood, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at IU Health Tipton Hospital after an extended illness. Born on July 14, 1944, in Elwood, he was the son of Nolan Rich and Mary (Sloan) Southwell. Troy attended Elwood Schools and, during his senior year, enlisted in the United States Navy. Upon returning home, he was determined to finish his education, earning his diploma from Anderson High School in 1965.
Troy married the love of his life, Alma Wright, on May 16, 1967. Their marriage was a testament to partnership and devotion, spanning over 59 years. Troy dedicated 29 years to the maintenance department at Elwood Community School Corporation, retiring in 2015. He was known for the pride and meticulous care he poured into his work, especially in maintaining the Elwood Football field. Under Troy's stewardship, the field was always immaculate and ready for Friday night lights—a reflection of his commitment to excellence and his community.
Troy's sense of responsibility extended beyond his career. He found great satisfaction in providing for his family and took pride in being a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His family was his greatest joy, and he relished every moment spent together. Troy also enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, woodworking, fishing, and keeping up with his neighbors. Whether tending his garden or visiting with friends, Troy's dedication, work ethic, and love for his family were evident in all he did.
Troy is survived by his wife Alma Rich of Elwood; son, Jeff Rich (Cheri Halsted) of Elwood; daughter, Carol Rich of Elwood; 2 granddaughters, Lainy Brown (Alasdair Reese) of Elwood, and Ivy Brown of Elwood; brother, David Rich of Yorktown; great-grandpup, Indy; and several nieces and nephews.
