Obituary

Travis York, age 81 of Elwood, passed away peacefully late Friday evening, April 8, 2016 at his home in Elwood surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness and a well-lived life. He was born Nov. 24, 1934 in Bath County, KY, the son of Carl and Katherine "Kate" (Vice) York. Travis was a well-known contractor, owning and operating Travis York Siding for over 40 years in the Elwood area. He also formerly worked for many years with Bob Lamberjack Construction. He was a former member of the Elwood Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge, and was especially talented at playing pool. He also enjoyed playing euchre, fishing at Dale Hollow, hunting squirrel and rabbit, working on cars, playing guitar for many years, and gardening – especially good strawberries. Travis remodeled his home and built himself the ultimate "man cave" at his home and loved nothing more than spending time there with his family. He also enjoyed attending Central Wesleyan Church in Elwood. He will be remembered for enjoying "lively" conversations with his friends at Hardee's and Friendly's; and especially remembered for his devotion to all of his family. Travis' family would like to thank special caretakers Carol McCraw and Kimberly Melton, the St. Vincent Hospice nurses, and especially his grandson and caretaker, Jeremy Dauenhauer for the loving care they all provided to Travis during his illness.

Travis' living family includes 6 children, Penny York of Muncie, Diana (Steve) Sickman of Fairmount, Travis "Allen" (Linda) York of Rigdon, Cynthia York of Elwood, Pamela (Bill) Couch and Marla (Bill) Vardman all of Merritt Island, FL; brother, Carl (Diane) York of Elwood; 11 grandchildren, Aaron, Adam, Jeremy, Heather, Staci, Angie, Kattie-Jo, Corby, Devin, Tabitha, and Joshua; 13 great-grandchildren, Auston, Jacob, Brenden, Maranda, Emily, Adeana, Jordan, Olivia, Zachary, Lily, Ethan, Kia, and Mason (expected in May); 2 great-great grandchildren, Rylinn and Waylon; 2 step-children, Carole (Bruce) Nimitz and Steve (Cindy) Schaub; and several nieces and nephews.

Travis was preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife and mother of his children, Nancy Roberta (Blanton) York in 1998; 2nd wife, Alexandra (MacDonald) York in 2015; son, Dean York in 1990; daughter, Lana Jo York as a baby; brother, Charles York; and 2 sisters, Virginia Quisenberry and Dixie Horseman.
