Travis Alan Gustin, age 17 of Elwood, died Friday, October 3, 2014 in Elwood. He was born January 29, 1997 in Elwood, the son of Matthew "Lee" Gustin and Mandy (Groover) Shaffer. Travis was a student at Elwood Community High School as a Junior in the class of 2016. He was also a student of John Hinds Vocational School in the building trades program, which he really enjoyed. He was planning to enlist in the U.S. Navy in the next few months. Travis enjoyed playing disc golf, fishing, spending time outdoors, and especially playing football with his brother and playing with his niece, Erika. He was an avid Chicago Bears football fan. Travis will be remembered as being friendly to everyone and carrying a positive attitude towards everything. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his parents, Mandy (husband Craig) Shaffer of Elwood and Matthew "Lee" (wife Alice) Gustin of Anderson; grandmother, Penny (Burkert) Groover of Alexandria; grandfather, William Gustin of Alexandria; siblings, Michael (fiancé Kristi) Medley of Middletown, Whitney Medley of Elwood, Dakota Hartwell of Alexandria, Caleb Hartwell of Alexandria, Matthew Gustin, Jr. of Elwood, Sarah Michelle Gustin of Elwood, and Shneeka Keefer of Alexandria; step-sister, Brittney Phipps of Anderson; niece, Erika Medley of Elwood; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Travis was preceded in death by his grandmother, Barbara Sue Glover; great-grandparents, Robert & Eileen "Pat" Burkert; and special aunt, Cindy "Aunnie" Burkert.
A funeral service celebrating Travis' life will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Larry Crowder officiating. Burial will follow in the Aroma Cemetery in Atlanta. Visitation will be held from Noon to 2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
