Obituary

Tomy Richie, age 90 of Alexandria, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family following a long, well-lived life.  He was born on January 3, 1928 in Buckhorn, Kentucky the son of Gilbert and Kate "Sissie" (Lovins) Richie.  Tomy worked for Penn Central Railway (later known as Conrail Railroad) for 43 years and retired in February of 1990.  He married the love of his life, Mary E. Griffey on August 14, 1950, and they shared over 58 years of marriage together.  Tomy enjoyed many outdoor activities including, mowing, gardening, and feeding his fish in his pond.  He liked to attend dog water races, and loved to play euchre.  Tomy was known for throwing a large Fourth of July party that included games, food, and fireworks.  He loved to go hunting, especially coon hunting.  Tomy adored his grandchildren, and was a true child at heart.  More than anything, Tomy will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Tomy's family includes daughter Betsy (husband Bud) Shipley of Elwood; 3 grandchildren, Justin (wife Karrie) Shipley of Alexandria, Brittany (husband Michael) Gregg of Elwood, and Shannon Frye of Alexandria; 3 great-grandchildren, Grayson Hunter Gregg, Piper Elizabeth Gregg, and Destiny Nicole Frye; an expected great-grandson, Oakley Heinz Gregg; and several nieces and nephews.

Tomy was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary E. (Griffey) Richie in 2008; daughter, Barbara Ellen Frye; 4 sisters, Carrie Faucett, Polly Jackson, Rosie Miller, and Bessie Gross; and 2 brothers, John Richie and Henry Richie.

A funeral service celebrating Tomy's life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 30, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Randy Murphy officiating.  Burial will follow in Forrestville Cemetery in Summitville.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the National Kidney Foundation through the funeral home.  Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
