Thelma C. Castor, age 91 of Atlanta, died Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood following an extended illness. She was born February 20, 1921 in North Carolina – the daughter of Charles and Cordia (Duncan) Church. She formerly worked for Delco Remy in Anderson for many years. She was a graduate of Summitville High School. She married Robert F. Castor on November 19, 1943. Thelma was a devoted member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Elwood. She enjoyed square dancing, traveling, spending time with her friends, and especially life on her family farm.
Family members include her brother, Charles Eugene Church of Elwood; niece, Jane (husband Mike) Tracy of Elwood; 3 nephews, Kevin (wife Sharon) Church of Elwood, Dennis (wife Pam) Church of Elwood; and Kim (wife Elaine) Melson of Tennessee; sister-in-law, Harriett Church of Elwood; brother-in-law, Raymond Daugherty of Alexandria; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 50 years, Robert F. Castor who died March 31, 1994; daughter, Sharon Sue Castor; 2 sisters, Dorothy Ellsworth and Betty Daugherty; brother, Joe Church; sister-in-law, Wilma Church; 2 nephews, Steven Daugherty and Robert Doversberger; and niece, Dixie Reynolds.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Josh Carney of the First Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.
