Terry L. "Rocky" Rockhill , age 76 of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville following an extended illness. He was born July 14, 1943 in Flora, the son of Clarence and Lottie Mae (Powell) Rockhill. Rocky was a 1963 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School and after graduation, immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. Rocky was proud to serve his country in the Army during the Vietnam War while he was stationed in Germany. He married Barbara Ogle on August 4, 1984, and they shared over 35 years of marriage together. Rocky most recently owned his own bar, "My Favorite Place" with his wife for over 11 years. Before Rocky owned his bar, he was a salesman for Terrance Smith Breweries for over 10 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Eagles Lodge and the Moose Lodge where he served as Governor for many years. Rocky was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears football team and also enjoyed watching his favorite NASCAR driver, Tony Stewart. In Rocky's younger years, he especially enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors. He also truly loved animals, especially his 2 dogs, "C.D." and "D.D." who he would take for rides on his scooter through the neighborhood. Rocky never met a stranger and would make friends with everyone he encountered. He especially loved telling jokes and talking to everyone. After retirement, Rocky would go every day for breakfast with his friends to the Airport Restaurant in Elwood. More than anything, Rocky loved life and especially loved his family.
Rocky's family includes his wife, Barbara Rockhill of Elwood; 4 children, Pam (husband Rob) Bennett of Texas, Missy Rockhill of Indianapolis, Greg (wife Mickey) Rockhill of Ohio and Shelley (husband Roy) Brannon of Muncie; 3 step-children, Angela (husband Randy) Brown of Cicero, Kelly (husband Doug) Novotney of Anderson and Eric (wife Laura) Ogle of Anderson; 2 sisters, Peggy (husband Bob) Smith of Indianapolis and Jo Ann (husband Vern) Brummet of Elwood; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Rocky was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Robert Dean Rockhill and James Rockhill; and 2 sisters, Betty Brewer and Sue McPhearson.
A celebration of Rocky's life will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the Tipton American Legion. Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home has been entrusted with Rocky's funeral arrangements. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans through the funeral home.
