Steven L. Meyer, age 65 of Syracuse and formerly of Elwood, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Indiana University Goshen Hospital in Goshen following a brief illness. He was born August 24, 1946 in Elwood, the son of Robert & Joan (Summers) Meyer. He retired from Dana Corporation after 30 years of service. He graduated in 1964 from Windfall High School, and later served in the Indiana National Guard. Steve was a member of the Syracuse American Legion and the Elwood Elks Lodge #368.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Meyer of Syracuse whom he married November 7, 1993; mother, Joan Meyer of Elwood; 3 brothers, Mick (wife Suzanne) Meyer of Atlanta, Dan (wife Cindy) Meyer of Elwood, Jack (wife Jane) Meyer of Payne, OH; 7 sisters, Sue (husband Kenny) Clouser of Noblesville, Becky (husband Randy) Robinson of Muncie, Mary (husband Carl) Kidd of Muncie, Judy Speer of Elwood, Peggy (husband Ted) Bryan of Anderson, Barbara (husband Don) Pine of Elwood, and Beth (husband John) Moser of Elwood; 3 stepsons, Lonnie (wife Dee) Godfrey of Cromwell, Rod Godfrey of Syracuse, and Travis (wife Amy) Ball of Syracuse; 2 stepdaughters, Kerri (husband Howard) Kelley of Syracuse and Shanda (husband Frank) Owens of Millersburg; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Robert Meyer .
Funeral services will start with an Elks Memorial service at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Chris Dare of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Military Honors will also be conducted immediately following the funeral on Wednesday at the funeral home by the Indiana National Guard and Elwood V.F.W. honor guard teams. Visitation will be conducted on Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM prior to the funeral service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. Visitation will also take place on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Eastlund Funeral Home in Syracuse.
