Steven Dwayne Brummet , age 74 of Elwood, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023 at Ascension - St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following an extended illness.  He was born Oct. 1, 1949 in Elwood, the son of Ora H. and Betty J. (Stafford) Brummet.  Steve attended Elwood schools.  He worked for many years as a janitor at Dickey's Nursing Home and Mercy Hospital in Elwood.  Steve last worked at Paradise Valley Schools in Arizona as a custodian until he retired in 1998.  He was a devoted Christian and former member of Zion Chapel Church in Elwood.  Steve was very knowledgeable about the Bible and scriptures despite his challenges in reading.  He especially enjoyed writing gospel music for many years.  Steve went on many trips and his most memorable trip was one he took to Hawaii.  He was known for his daily routines, and a few of them were watching The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy.  Steven also was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan and formerly liked to play Euchre and shoot pool with friends.  He has been welcomed into Heaven by many family members.

Steven's family includes his brother, Jerry (wife Charlotte) Brummet of Elwood; brother-in-law, John Simmons of Elwood; and several nieces and nephews.  Steven was preceded in death by his parents and 3 siblings, Garry Brummet, Loren "Herb" (wife Donna) Brummet, and Linda Simmons.

A funeral service celebrating Steven's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of East Main Street Christian Church officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.  Visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the funeral from 10 to 11 am at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Epilepsy Foundation through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
