Stephen C Arbuckle, age 70 of Elwood, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born January 3, 1941 in Elwood, the son of Ralph C and Martha J. (Tubbs) Arbuckle. He retired from Delco Remy in Anderson in 1998 where he worked in production for 36 years. He was a 1959 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood. Steve married Sharon K. Sheedy on October 16, 1976. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Elwood and a member of the United Auto Workers Union #662. He loved gardening, mowing his yard, and working on classic cars. He was a Corvette and Ford enthusiast. Steve was a member of the Old English Sheep Dog Club of America. He was an avid dog lover, and especially loved his pets – "Sally" and "Hooch".
Survivors include: Wife of nearly 35 years – Sharon K. Arbuckle of Elwood; 4 Children – Tammy (husband John) Gardner of Lapel, Greg Arbuckle of Elwood, Rachel (husband Brad) Mathys of Put-N-Bay, Oh, Shawn (wife Lisa) Arbuckle of Avon; 3 Brothers – Marshall T. (wife Michelle) Arbuckle of Muncie, J. Kent (wife Judy) Arbuckle of Frankton, Jon K. (fiancee Louisa) Arbuckle of Elwood; 8 Grandchildren – Tara Gardner, Grace Arbuckle, Rose Arbuckle, Stefanie Arbuckle, Ben Smith, Sara Farman, Jessica Farman, and Abby Arbuckle; 1 Great-Granddaughter – Jordyn Rivera and another great-grandchild expected in 2011; and several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Jim Waters, former interim pastor at Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery, and it was Steve's request to be taken to the cemetery in his friend's (Mike Taylor) 1955 Ford station wagon. The family would also invite others to drive their classic cars in the funeral procession to honor Steve's love of old cars. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 PM Monday, September 19, 2011 and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
