Stanley E. Laird , age 92 of Abilene, TX and formerly of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024 at his residence in Texas following a long, well-lived life.  He was born Nov. 28, 1931 in New London, WI, the son of Harland and Ellen (Pebbles) Laird.  Stan was a 1950 graduate of Menomonee Falls High School in Wisconsin.  He married the love of his life, Edna Mae Bruce, on April 15, 1950, and they shared over 67 years of marriage together until her passing in 2017.  Stan retired as an assistant plant manager from Reynolds Aluminum Company in California after working for them for 18 years.  Prior to working for Reynolds he worked for Continental Can Company for 25 years.  He was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church in Elwood.  Stan was a member of the Elwood Elks Lodge #368 in Elwood and the Moose Lodge while living in California.  He enjoyed watching and participating in all types of sports while growing up and throughout his adult life.  Stan especially liked bowling, golfing, and playing baseball.  He tried to attend all his families sporting events to show his support.  Stan was an avid Green Bay Packers football fan.  More than anything, Stan was devoted to his family, and his family finds comfort in knowing he is reunited with his wife in Heaven.

Stanley's family includes 7 children, Sandra (husband Vaughn) Lineberry of Elwood, Michael Laird of Sulphur, LA, David Laird of Cape Coral, FL, Ellen Davis of Riverview, FL, Timothy (wife Stephanie) Laird of Sulphur, LA, Amy (husband Mike) Lee of Abilene, TX, and Kenneth (wife Malinda) Laird of Oklahoma City, OK; brother, Ronald (wife Irene) Laird of Hartford, WI; sister-in-law, Christine Laird of Milwaukee, WI; 20 grandchildren, Meghan Venable, Samantha McLaughlin, Jennifer Messmer, Crystal Laird, Amanda Blackstone, Amber Sallee, Shawn Lineberry, Heather Bahr, Shane Davis, Ashley Chandler, Morgan Dodson, Maddie Dodson, Tyler Dodson, Joshua Lee, Brandon Lee, Alyssa Bossman, Ty Laird, Tatum Laird, Ryan Hoover, and Justin Hoover; 40 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna Mae Laird in 2017; daughter, Debra Hoover; 4 brothers, Terry Laird, Roger Laird, Jerry Laird, and Harland Laird, Jr.; 2 daughters-in-law, Rebecca Laird and Carol Laird; son-in-law, Richard Davis; father and mother-in-law, Fred and Jenny Bruce; and granddaughter, Stevie Grace Laird.

A funeral service celebrating Stanley's life will be conducted at 11 am on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Kal Rissman officiating.  Entombment will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, Oct. 21, 2024 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.   Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
