Shirley Ann
Chriss
Jan 23, 1936 — Sep 22, 2024
Shirley Ann Chriss , age 88 of Elwood, transitioned to her Heavenly home on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024 in Avon surrounded by family after a very brief illness. She was born Jan. 23, 1936 in Summitville, the daughter of Ora and Mildred (Coburn) Brummet. Shirley married Harold L. "Jack" Chriss on Oct. 31, 1953, and they shared nearly 71 years of marriage together. She worked in production at RCA Corporation in Marion for 25 years and retired in 1996. She also formerly worked at Fettig Canning Company in Elwood for several years. Shirley was a devoted Christian and gave her life to the Lord in 1960 alongside her husband, Jack. This life-changing experience shaped her Christian life in a profound way. Shirley was known for always greeting everyone with a beautiful smile and encouraging word.
Shirley loved cooking delicious meals for her family. She took great pride in caring for her home, decorating and keeping things beautiful, and working with flowers around her house and property. Shirley also enjoyed crocheting and cross-stitching various keepsakes for family and friends. For many years, Shirley and Jack traveled and enjoyed camping together with their fifth-wheel camper. More than anything, Shirley cherished spending time with her beloved family.
Shirley's family includes her husband, Jack Chriss of Elwood; son, Craig (Ginger) Chriss of Elwood; sister, Lois McCormick of Anderson; 3 grandchildren, Lisa (Shawn) Arbuckle of Avon, David (Devon) Chriss of Pittsburgh, PA, and Scott Chriss of Brooklyn, NY; great-granddaughter, Abby Arbuckle of Avon; daughter-in-law, Mary Chriss of Carmel; two sisters-in-law, LaVinda Brummet and Carolyn "Boogie" Johnson; special family members, Bill and Judy Nichols-Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; son, Kevin Chriss; and 7 siblings, Herbert Brummet, Catherine Dickerson, Jean Morehead, Vera Lloyd, Charles Brummet, Vernon Brummet, and Jerry Brummet.
