Sarah "Joan" Wilhelm, age 83 of Elwood, died unexpectedly on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at her residence. She was born August 9, 1929 in Michigantown, Indiana, the daughter of Lowell and Mary (Heaton) McQuinn. She formerly worked at Vest Cleaners in Elwood for many years as a steam presser. Joan was a 1947 graduate of Elwood High School. She married Danny J. Wilhelm on November 28, 1969, and they shared nearly 41 years together prior to his passing in 2010. Joan was a devoted member of the East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood where she was active in circle classes and the funeral dinner program. She enjoyed knitting and crafting.

Joan's family includes her son, Robin Lee Shaw of Indianapolis; 2 step-sons, Rodney J. Wilhelm and Roger W. (wife Tracie) Wilhelm; special friends, Mike and Kitty Kleinbub of Elwood; special grandson, Kristopher (wife Stephanie) Kleinbub of Fishers; special great-grandchildren, Max and Pete; and nephew, Michael McQuinn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Danny J. Wilhelm; 2 brothers, William McQuinn and Jack (wife Dorothy) McQuinn; and step-son, Dennis Wilhelm.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of the East Main Street Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the East Main Street Christian Church through the funeral home.
