Sandra L.
"Sandy" Tillery
Apr 19, 1948 — May 3, 2018
Sandra L. "Sandy" Tillery, age 70 of Elwood, passed away on Thursday May 3, 2018 at Community Hospital in Anderson following a brief diagnosis with cancer. She was born on April 19, 1948 in Richmond, the daughter of Jim and Thelma Louise (Argo) Abrams. Sandy was a homemaker all of her life, and had previously worked at Zimmerman Orthopedics and Flextronics while living in Austin, Texas. She was a graduate of Richmond High School. Sandy married the love of her life, Marvin Tillery, on May 24, 1969, and they shared over 48 years of marriage together. Sandy loved to street-race Marvin's car on many of their dates, and she was notorious for winning. At a young age, Sandy was always the spoiled daughter, and she liked to help her father with their miniature horses that they showed in numerous parades. She enjoyed playing bingo, and she especially liked reading her Bible and "angel cards" every night before bed. Sandy was an animal lover, and especially loved dogs. She was also an amazing cook, and her specialty was making "Kaimchi", which her family could never duplicate. More than anything, Sandy was devoted to her family and loved spending time with her grandkids who always called her "Memaw".
Sandy's family includes husband, Marvin Tillery of Elwood; 2 sons, James (wife Myra) Tillery of Elwood, and Joe (wife Stephanie) Tillery of Milford; 8 grandchildren, Zach Bowyer, Carrolyn Tillery, Marques Tillery, Elizabeth Tillery, Jackson Tillery, Lillian Tillery, Silas Tillery, and Elijah Martin; 8 great-grandchildren, Anthony Tillery, Kalieya Frazee, Tracy Wiles, Araya Tiller, Devin Durm, Payton Durm, Bentley Bowyer, and Michael Bowyer; and several nieces and nephews. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David Abrams; sister, Shirley Beers; and a grandson, Joshua Tillery.
A funeral service celebrating Sandy's life will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Jim Stout officiating. Burial will follow in Elwood City Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday prior to the funeral service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home to help offset unexpected funeral expenses. Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
