Samuel Aaron
Riggs
Nov 16, 1969 — Apr 16, 2025
Samuel Aaron "Sam" Riggs , age 55 of rural Atlanta, passed away on April 16, 2025 as a result of an automobile accident on US 31. He was born Nov. 16, 1969 in Elwood, the son of Lambert L. and Judy A. (Maple) Riggs and grew up near Point Isabel. Sam was a 1987 graduate of Eastern High School in Greentown. He was involved in 4-H during his school years, and he loved spending time outdoors. Sam worked in construction nearly all his life and was currently employed by Fox Construction for over 20 years. He was well-known for doing things right and took great pride in his work.
Sam was a loving son and devoted to the care of his family - especially his beloved mother. He was great with kids, and his nieces and nephews always wanted to spend time around him. Sam's love extended well beyond people. Growing up on a farm, he took exceptional care of his animals, including dogs, cats, horses, and many more. That love, however, did not extend to chickens. Sam was known for being dependable, and this was shown through his time spent mowing rural cemeteries in addition to his construction work. His grand-nephew enjoyed nothing more than when Sam took him out on the excavator.
Sam enjoyed working around livestock all his life and living in a country setting. He was known for being an excellent cook - often preparing meals for the holidays, and his favorite was making steaks. His family will not only miss his delicious meals, but also his contagious laughter. In his free time, Sam also enjoyed watching football and cheering for the Indianapolis Colts. He will never be forgotten.
Sam's surviving family includes his mother, Judy Riggs of Elwood; brother Randy (Gina) Riggs of Evans, GA; sister-in-law Betsy Riggs of Fairmount; nieces and nephews, Brandi (Cole) Flittner, Jenni (Charlie) Smith, Adam Riggs, Alex (Kaelyn) Riggs, and Olivia Riggs. Sam was preceded in death by father, Lambert Riggs in 2011 and his brother, Steve Riggs in 2024.
A funeral service celebrating Sam's life will be held at 5 pm on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Mitchell Haynes and family members officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 pm prior to the funeral service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. Cremation will take place. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ascension-St. Vincent Hospital Foundation or the charity of the donor's choice. Online memories and condolences may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
