Ruth H.
Wann
Aug 9, 1921 — Dec 3, 2021
Ruth H. Wann , age 100 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Elwood Health & Living Care Center after a long, full life. She was born August 9, 1921 in Elwood, the daughter of J. Roscoe and Rona (Southern) Procter. Ruth was a 1939 graduate of Elwood High School and remained active in the school Alumni Association nearly all of her life. She married her soulmate, Richard L. "Dick" Wann on May 17, 1944, and they shared 61 years of marriage together before his passing in 2005. Ruth worked at Delco Remy in Anderson for four years during WWII and later devoted her time to being a homemaker and wife. She and Dick lived in Ohio for several years for Dick's position with Firestone before returning to retire in their hometown of Elwood.
Ruth lived a very active and purposeful life. She and Dick attended First United Methodist Church in Elwood for many years. Ruth was a member of the Purdue Alumni Association with Dick and the Purdue Club of Wives; the Francis Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Marion; a wife-affiliated member of the P.O.W.; lifetime associate member of the V.F.W.; member of the Wadsworth Women's Club in Ohio; and served 25 years on the Board of Elections in Ohio. Ruth was also formerly active in the Elwood Garden Club, the 50-Plus Club, and especially enjoyed working with the scholarship program for the Elwood Alumni Association for many years.
Ruth loved reading, scrapbooking, and researching genealogy. She was well-known for writing personal notes and cards to family, friends, and people she cared about. Her holiday cards list numbered over 400, and they were lovingly hand-written in great detail to each recipient. Ruth's legacy will never be forgotten, and her family finds comfort knowing she is reunited with Dick in Heaven.
Ruth's family would like to thank the staff of Elwood Health and Living for the outstanding care and compassion provided to Ruth in her final years. Their tender care will never be forgotten.
Ruth's family includes special nieces and nephew, Brenda Smith of Marion, Terrance (Debbie) Freeman of Noblesville, Maria (Steve Witcher) of Anderson, and Annette and Brad McDaniel of Fishers; special cousin, Becky Cunningham of Elwood; niece-in-law, Sherrie Freeman of Carmel; and numerous cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by parents; husband, Richard Wann; niece, Glenda "Kay" Riggs; sister-in-law, Eileen Wann-Freeman; brother-in-law, Maurice Wann; and nephew, Jeff Freeman.
A funeral service celebrating Ruth's life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Jeff Haill officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will take place from noon to 1:00 pm prior to the funeral on Thursday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
