Ruth Ann Decker, age 83, of Elwood, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 12, 2026, after a brief illness. Born on May 23, 1943, in Elwood, she was the daughter of Ralph and Beatrice (Babb) Amos. Ruth graduated from Wendell L. Willkie High School in 1961. On June 3 of that year, she married her soulmate, Robert Paul Decker, and together they shared more than 65 wonderful years of marriage. Ruth was devoted to her family, cherishing every moment with her children and grandchildren. Her giving spirit touched countless lives, as she was always the first to lend a helping hand. Whether volunteering at the school, the food pantry, or nursing homes, Ruth gave her time and heart generously wherever there was need. She was a proud member of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority and worked for many years at J. Lewis Small’s. She loved spending time with her great grandchildren as they filled her heart with love and joy. Ruth’s legacy is one of unwavering love, kindness, and compassion. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a selfless friend to all.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Robert Decker of Elwood; 2 daughters, Terina A. (Justal) Ball of Elwood, and Christy L. (Jason Robison) Basham of Elwood; 2 brothers, Sonny Amos of Elwood, and Max (Delberta) Amos of Chesterfield; 8 grandchildren, Dennis (Tennielle) Basham, Brooklyn (Ike Hooper) Basham, Brandon (Breona Wilson) Basham, Josh (Kendra) Ball, Sarah (Bryan) Jarvis, Jake (Lexie Miller) Ball, Mason Robison, and Nolan Robison; 5 great-grandchildren, Georgianna Jarvis, Vivienne Jarvis, Bodhi Ball, Breelynn Basham, and Dennis Basham; and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; and 7 siblings, Darlene Francis, Joan Allen, Ronny Amos, Terry Amos, Gary Amos, Bill Amos, and David Amos.
A funeral service celebrating Ruth’s life will take place at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 18, 2026 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Gardner of Heritage Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow the service in Elwood City Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the service on Friday, September 18, 2026 at the funeral home.
