Ruth Ann "Bootsie" Updegraff, age 65 of Elwood, died Thursday, August 23, 2012 at St. John's Health System in Anderson after an extended battle with cancer. She was born August 9, 1947 in Elwood, the daughter of Thomas J. and Jeanette (Wallace) Lindley. Bootsie attended Elwood schools. She married Charles "David" Updegraff on August 28, 1965. She was a Homemaker most of her life and along with her husband, was a devoted caregiver to their son with disabilities. She was a member of the "Giddy Gabbers Group" and enjoyed working cross-word puzzles and playing Euchre. She was an avid NASCAR fan and especially liked Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Boostie enjoyed watching the Food Channel on TV. She loved taking care of her family, especially her sons, and enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in various sporting events for many years.
Her family includes her husband of nearly 47 years, Charles "David" Updegraff of Elwood; 2 sons, Michael Updegraff at home and Kevin (wife Angel) Updegraff of Elwood; Sister, Janet (husband Gene) Maley of Elwood; 3 grandchildren, Dakin Updegraff, Sierra Updegraff, and Addison Updegraff; mother-in-law, Edna Updegraff of Elwood; 2 brother- in-law, Bobby Updegraff of Muncie and Joe (wife Donna) Updegraff of Alexandria; 2 sisters-in-law, Peggy McCool of Elwood and Kelly (husband Dean) Cole of Elwood; and several nieces and nephews.
Bootsie was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Tyra Lee Updegraff; brother, Thomas James Lindley; 2 sisters, Linda Harting and Debra Lindley; and father-in-law, Charles R. Updegraff.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 27, 2012 at 1:00PM at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Dr. Linda Philabaun of the First Presbyterian Church and Rich Leavell officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7:00 PM on Sunday August 26, 2012 at the funeral home.
