Ruth Elaine Baker

Ruth E. Baker, age 95, of Elwood and formerly of Pennsylvania, entered into Heaven on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Elwood Health and Living after a brief illness but a long and fulfilling life. Born March 19, 1931, in Wellsville, New York, to Mack and Alwilda (Metcalf) Harder, Ruth was a 1949 graduate of Olean High School. On June 14, 1951, she married her beloved husband, Lewis B. Baker, Sr., and together they cherished over 69 years of marriage until his passing in 2020. Ruth and Lewis made their home in Pennsylvania for nearly five decades before moving to Elwood to be closer to their son and daughter-in-law. Ruth devoted herself to her family, finding joy and purpose in her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother. A woman of steadfast Christian faith, Ruth was an active and dedicated member of Fox Street Church of God in Franklin, PA, where she served as church secretary and found joy in fellowship. She also worked for a time at a Christian Book Store. Ruth enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, reading, and music, but her greatest happiness was found in the company of her family. Her legacy of faith, love, and devotion will be treasured by all who knew her.

Ruth is survived by her son, Lewis (Carol) Baker, Jr. of Elwood; daughter, Pamela (Mack) Campbell of Climax Springs, MO; 4 grandchildren, Caitlin (Greg), Zachary (Monica), Nathaniel (Pamela), and Joshua; 1 step-grandson, Michael; 5 great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Ethyn, Skylar, Geralyn, and Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis B. Baker, Sr.; 3 siblings, Maureen Richardson, Janet Lackey, and Maxine McLaughlin; and daughter, Deborah Baker.

Ruth’s wishes were to be cremated and have a graveside service at Bolivar Cemetery in New York. Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood is honored to handle Ruth’s arrangements.
