Obituary

Ruby L. Scott, age 92 of Indianapolis and formerly of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Prairie Lakes Health Campus in Noblesville following a brief illness, but a long fulfilling life.  She was born September 28, 1926 in Elwood, the daughter of John L. and Edna A. (Groover) Scott.  She was a 1944 graduate of Sunset High School in Dallas, Texas, and later studied 2 years of college courses in business.  Early in her life, Ruby was active in 4-H and the Rural Youth organization.  Ruby retired in 1981 as a Title One Representative for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in Indianapolis after 30 years of service and retired on December 25, 1981.  She worked for the government for a total of 37½ years, previously working at the Farm Credit Administration in 1944, Farm Security (U.S.D.A) from 1945-1951, and H.U.D from 1951-1981.  Ruby was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Indianapolis for many years.  Earlier in life, she was involved in the Service Men's Center and U.S.O.; and she was a member of the Queen Esther Chapter #3 of the Order of the Eastern Star.  Ruby especially enjoyed spending time with her extended family at Hollyhock Inn in her neighborhood.  She also loved visiting her family cabin near Brown County and Bean Blossom, Indiana.  More than anything, Ruby had a very special relationship with her sister, Mary Ann Williams; and their dedication to one another was remarkable.

Ruby's family includes her sister, Mary Ann Williams of Indianapolis; aunt, Margaret "Mazie" Groover of Elwood; and many special cousins including Rick (wife Cindy) Groover of Elwood, Linda (husband Bob) Fogle of Winnamac, Carol Harper of Leesburg, GA, Carl Scott of Elwood, and Barbara (husband Jim) Emenheiser of Sharpsville.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, John "Paul" Williams; 2 aunts, Pauline Scott and Goldie Browning; 2 uncles, Estel Groover and Harold Groover; and her beloved dog, "Baby" Scott who died in 2006.

A funeral service celebrating Ruby's life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Dr. Frederick Lewis, former pastor of the First Baptist Church of Indianapolis, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery in Elwood.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Indianapolis through the funeral home.  Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
