Obituary

Rosemary (McCorkle) Boles , age 93 of Elwood, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, January 23, 2023 at Community Hospital in Anderson after living a long, full life.  She was born June 17, 1929 in Curtisville, the daughter of William A. and Blanche M. (Russell) McCorkle.  Rosemary attended school in Windfall and later became a licensed hairdresser.  She married Donald L. Boles on August 30, 1952, and they shared 27 years of marriage together until his sudden passing in 1979.  Rosemary worked as a hairdresser and beautician for nearly 70 years in Elwood.  She worked in several locations and then became the owner of what is now the Country Carousel on South L Street.  Rosemary last worked as the hairdresser at Forest Glen Beauty Shop in Elwood.

Rosemary was a former member of the Curtisville Christian Church, and she currently attended Joy Christian Church in Elwood for the past 10 years.  She was passionately involved in her community as a member and leader in several local organizations.  She was a member and past-president of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) where she was named Woman of the Year in 1990.  She was also former President of the Elwood V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary; former President of the Elwood Art League; and former President of the Elwood Hairdresser's Association.   Rosemary enjoyed spending every moment she could with her family - especially her kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Many of her fondest memories involved fishing with her brothers; helping her brother, Russell, at the Indiana State Fair; listening to music; and dancing.  She especially loved the experience of traveling to Europe with her late husband, Don, for their 25th wedding anniversary.  Rosemary truly loved working until the age of 90 and socializing with all her devoted clients through the years.  She will be remembered as a devoted mother and "granny" who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.  Rosemary's family legacy includes her son, Michael W. Luse of Elwood; daughter, Donna (Jeff) Sizelove of Frankton; 4 grandchildren, Casey (Josh) Cage, Dustin (Kaci) Luse, Brittney (Matt) Guthrie, and Sunny Brook (Casey) Hughes; 8 great-grandchildren, Carson, Mylo, Kora, Brynkley, Audrey, Grayson, Kori, and Kaleb; 2 special nieces, Lisa Vaitekunas and Susan McCorkle (by marriage); and special friend, Carl Scott.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Boles; 6 brothers, Virgil, James, Frank, Wonie, Bob, and Bud McCorkle; a great-grandson, Liam Luse; and special friend, David Kohn.

A funeral service celebrating Rosemary's life and legacy will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Jim Stout and family member Matt Guthrie, officiating.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 to 3 pm on Saturday prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Cremation will follow the services, and burial will take place in Sunset Cemetery at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Elwood V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
