Rose Marie
Davis
Dec 1, 1928 — Jul 1, 2019
Rose Marie Davis, age 90 of Alexandria, reunited with her husband in Heaven on Monday, July 1, 2019 at home surrounded by her family after a long, well-lived life. She was born December 1, 1928 in Elwood, the daughter of William and Marie Otho (Porter) Silvey. Rose was raised on a farm and that upbringing shaped the rest of her life. She was a 1946 graduate of Frankton High School. Rose married her soulmate William E. "Junior" Davis on January 20, 1951, and they shared 59 years of marriage together before his passing in 2010. She worked in production at Guide Lamp Corporation in Anderson for 33 years before retirement in 1989, and she was a member of the U.A.W. #663 in Anderson. Rose was a person of very strong faith and devotion, and she was the oldest living member of the Elwood branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Within the church, she formerly served as Relief Society President; seminary teacher; and former Stake Primary Secretary for many years. She and Junior were honored to serve in the Chicago and Louisville Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Rose especially enjoyed vegetable gardening, canning, reading daily scriptures, and journaling every day. Rose and Junior instilled a very strong work ethic in all their children, and their grandchildren lovingly referred to them as "Boppie" and "Mom-Mom". Rose was the matriarch of her family, and her children and grandchildren never hesitated to seek her advice and support. Rose also enjoyed crocheting for many years and was known for dancing the "Jitterbug" in her kitchen on many occasions. Her family finds comfort knowing she is in her Heavenly home with Junior and they will see her again one day. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the loving care that Debbie Hughes has provided to Rose over the past year at her home.
Rose's family legacy includes 4 daughters, Cynthia R. (Ed) Hamilton of Alexandria, Melanie G. Strong of Anderson, Judith L. (Kenny) Anderson of Alexandria, and Teresa A. (Terry) Hartman of Elwood; 3 sisters, Patty Martin of Frankton, Martha Taylor of Anderson, and Linda Driffel of Anderson; 17 grandchildren, Chad (Jennifer) Vinson, Sarah (Landon) Reed, Nathan (Jamie) Hartman, Rachel (Travis) Reed, Kimberly Anderson, Benjamin Strong, Jonathan Hartman, Emily (Steve) Suddarth, Katie (Joshua) Ashby, Rebekah (Vinson) Needler, Blake Hamilton, Jacob (Brooke) Hartman, Mollie Hamilton, Hannah (Garek) Parry, Janelle (Chris) Nolan, Kris Hamilton, and Ryan Hamilton; 35 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William E. "Junior" Davis; son-in-law, Darrell Strong; and 3 siblings, Gene Silvey, John Silvey, and Mary Adams.
A funeral service for Rose will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Elwood with President Ken Vehikite officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, July 5, 2019 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home and from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Saturday prior to the funeral at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mission Fund at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
