Obituary

Ronald "Ronnie" Allen Hussong , age 82, of Tipton and formerly of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Elwood Health and Living following an extended illness. Born on December 22, 1942, in Elwood, he was the son of Readus and Ruth (Hankley) Hussong. A proud 1961 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School, Ron demonstrated leadership and commitment early in life. Upon graduation, he honorably served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany for two years. On December 28, 1963, Ron married his soul mate, Barbara A. Farnsworth, and together they shared more than 61 years of partnership and love.

A respected professional, Ron contributed his expertise as an electronics technician at Textron (formerly Excello) for 20 years, and later continued his career in production at Daimler Chrysler for an additional 13 years. Guided by a deep and unwavering faith, Ron dedicated a decade to helping others through the jail ministry with his good friend, Ron Friend, offering hope and guidance to those in need. He was an active member of Heartland Ministries, nurturing his faith through the Heartland Great Banquet, and participated in the Cross Walk across Indiana. Ron was also a former member of the Elwood Elks Lodge. Known for his warmth and genuine kindness, he was an avid dog lover and a friend to all who knew him.

Ron was passionate about baseball and was highly respected for his decades-long service as an umpire for the local Little League and Babe Ruth games. He devoted over 40 years to the sport, and took great pride in having played in the inaugural year of Harry Bridges Little League in 1955, even earning the championship. A lifelong Philadelphia Phillies fan, Ron exemplified sportsmanship and community spirit, and his presence was a fixture at his son's and grandchildren's school and sporting events. Above all, Ron will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, whose legacy of love and integrity endures.

Ron is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Hussong of Tipton; 2 sons, Andrew "Andy" (Susie) Hussong of Tipton, and Matthew "Matt" Hussong of Fishers; 4 grandchildren, Korbin Hussong of Elwood, Kurtis (Samantha Wills, fiancé) Hussong of Noblesville, Kaden Hussong of Tipton, and Kellen Hussong of Tipton; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents; and 3 sisters, Joyce Lineberry, Shirley Owens, and Louise Carpenter.
