Obituary

Ronald Ray Huffman , age 82 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Ascension / St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood after a brief illness and a great life.  He was born November 13, 1940 in Elwood, the son of Kenneth Huffman and Mary (Blubaugh) Kane.  Ron attended Wendell L. Willkie High School before serving his country in the U.S. Navy.  Ron married his soulmate, Judith A. Wright, August 15, 1959, and they shared over 60 years of marriage together before her passing in 2020.  Ron worked at Delco Remy division of General Motors in Anderson for 30 years and retired in 1992.  Shortly thereafter, he became a school bus driver for Elwood schools which he enjoyed for 20 more years.

Ron was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tipton and the U.A.W. #662 in Anderson.  He and Judy raised a wonderful family together and had many memorable adventures.  Ron enjoyed horses, deer hunting, and riding his Honda Goldwing motorcycle.  He and his family also camped together for many years all over the United States, and Ron especially enjoyed muzzle loading reenactments.  Ron filled his free time with many hobbies through the years including sailing his catamaran boat regularly on Bruce Lake; operating radio-controlled airplanes and boats; and various woodworking projects which he enjoyed giving to his family.  As their family grew, Ron and Judy never missed watching any of their children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren's sporting events.  Ron's family is comforted knowing that Ron and Judy are reunited in Heaven together.

The Huffman family would like to once again thank the dedicated staff of Heart-to-Heart Hospice for the outstanding care they provided to Ron.  Their care and compassion will never be forgotten.

Ron's family includes 3 daughters, Rhonda (husband Al) Fortier of Clearwater, FL, Renee "Lynn" Huffman of Elwood, and Rae Ann (husband Bill) Cress of Frankton; 2 siblings, Linda (Lowell) Bain of Carmel and Robert "Bob" Huffman of Elwood; sister-in-law, Rose Huffman of California; 5 grandchildren, Heather (Ed) Gordon, Heidi (Steve) Fischer, Jacob (Jamie) Cress, Trevor (Elizabeth) Cress, and Katie Huffman; 10 great-grandchildren, Gabby Leavell, Claudia Leavell, Jackson Gordon, Brendan Fischer, Izzy Fischer, Colin Fischer, William Cress, Levi Cress, Andrew Cress, and Landon Cress; a great-great-grandchild, Gordon Leavell; and several nieces and nephews.  Ron was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judith Huffman; brother, Kenneth "Sonny" Huffman; and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Leavell.

A funeral service celebrating Ron's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Chaplain Phil Rogers officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy and Elwood V.F.W. honor guard.  Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the funeral on Saturday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Elwood Health & Living Activity Fund.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
