Obituary

Ronald D. Boruff, age 84 and a lifelong resident of the Elwood area, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Ascension – St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood after a brief illness.  He was born April 1, 1941 at home in Curtisville, the son of Jamerson S. and Bonnie (Dezearn) Boruff.  Ron's life exemplified the values of a small, mid-western community that formed who he became – serviceman, husband, father, and grandfather.  He was a 1959 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Air Force.  Ron married his soul mate, Darlene F. Andrews on October 7, 1962, and they shared over 62 years of marriage together.  Ron was an excellent provider for his family working in production at Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo for over 20 years.  He retired young enough to enjoy his retirement to the fullest.

Ron was a devoted Elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Elwood where he served his church faithfully.  He was known for his ability to talk with just about anyone about almost anything.  Ron loved people and especially enjoyed riding his golf cart around town and socializing with everyone along the way.  He also enjoyed watching sports, golf, and just sitting on the porch with Darlene or feeding squirrels in his backyard.  Ron also took pride in his yard which he enjoyed mowing for many years.  One of the most memorable opportunities of his life was traveling on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2024 accompanied by his son, Jeff.  The pride and respect he felt on this trip impacted him deeply.  More than anything, Ron's family, and especially his grandchildren - were his greatest accomplishment.  His kind nature and devotion to caring for Darlene in recent years will never be forgotten.

Ron's family includes his wife, Darlene Boruff of Elwood; son, Jeff Boruff (Christy Hope) of Noblesville; daughter, Pam (Rodney) Perdew of New Castle; sister, Joann Williams of Elwood; two grandchildren, Austin Perdew and Tanner Perdew (Fiance' Stevie Harmon); and numerous nieces and nephews.  Ron was preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings, Madonna Boruff, Phyllis Morris, Mary Kay Greenwald, Roy Boruff, Wayne Boruff, and James Boruff.

A funeral service celebrating Ron's life and faith will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Phil Votaw of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.  Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Elwood and will include military honors by the U.S. Air Force and Elwood V.F.W. honor guard.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 to 2 pm prior to the funeral on Thursday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Honor Flight Program through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
