Roger T. Beekman, age 61 of Elwood, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born on October 19, 1956 in Marion, the son of Howard and Thelma (Magers) Beekman. Roger worked in production for RCA in Marion for 15 years and retired in 1998 due to disability. Roger attended Marion schools and graduated at Fort Campbell in Kentucky. He was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Roger later attended I.U.P.U.I. for 4 years and majored in engineering. He married Karen (Miller) Hoskins on August 18, 1980, and they shared over 37 years of marriage together. Roger was baptized in the Baptist faith. He was an outdoorsman, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Roger was a member of the American Legion in Elwood for many years. He especially loved seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Roger's family includes wife, Karen Beekman of Elwood; 7 children, T. Amber Beekman of Marion, Michell (husband Robert) Rea of Michigan, Emma Beekman (fiance' Robert) of Marion; Cliff Hoskins (girlfriend Angie Kleyla) of Elwood, Penny Hoskins of Elwood, Lisa Hoskins of Elwood, and Linda (husband John) McCarty of Virginia; brother, Howard Beekman of Peru; 8 grandchildren, Lacie, Barbara, Nathan, Christopher, Alexis, Samantha, Bryce, and Colin; 5 great-grandchildren, Rilla, Celestine, Johnna, Johnnathin, and Persius; and several nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Charles Beekman.
A funeral service celebrating Roger's life will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Rodney Ellis of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Elwood, officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and Elwood V.F.W. at the conclusion of the funeral service on Tuesday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. Cremation will follow and burial will take place at a later date in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 prior to the service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
