Dr. Robert B. Scircle, age 87 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville after a well-lived life and years of service to his community. He was born March 24, 1929 in Elwood, the son of Roy A. and Leona B. (Benson) Scircle. Bob graduated in 1946 from Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood and later earned his bachelor's degree at Wabash College. He graduated from the IU School of Dentistry. Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He married Gayle B. Bolyard on August 2, 1958, and they shared more than 57 years of life together. Bob was a respected Dentist in the Elwood community for more than forty years until his retirement in 1995. He was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Elwood where he was active in the church choir; was a member of the Indiana Dental Association, the American Dental Association, and the Pierre Fouchard Dental Society. He was also a member of the Elwood Masonic Lodge # 230, the Elwood Elks Lodge # 368, the Scottish Rite in Indianapolis, and formerly the Lions Club. He enjoyed reading educational magazines and was an avid sports fan – especially watching I.U. Basketball and Chicago Cubs Baseball. He was devoted to his family and especially enjoyed spending time with them at Lukens Lake. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Dr. Scircle's family includes his wife Gayle B. Scircle of Elwood; daughter, Beth (husband Jeff) Draper, of Noblesville; son, John (wife Sherry) Scircle of Powell, TN; 3 grandchildren, Kyle Draper of Noblesville, Lauren Draper of Noblesville, and Austin Scircle of Powell, TN; 2 sisters, Martha (husband Henry) Berger of Hainsport, NJ and Mary Lou Kimball of Normal, IL; 3 nephews; and a niece. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Arthur Kimball.
A funeral service celebrating Robert's life will be conducted at 2 PM on Friday, May 20, 2016 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Jennifer Charles of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 AM to 2 PM on Friday prior to the funeral service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
