Robert A. Legg

Robert A. “Bob” Legg, age 81, of Fishers and formerly of Elwood, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Allisonville Meadows in Fishers after a brief illness. Born May 4, 1945, in Elwood to William J.B. and Vivian (Jacobs) Legg, Bob lived a life defined by his unwavering commitment to his family and generosity. A 1963 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School, Bob enlisted in the National Guard after graduation. He prided himself on being a provider for his family. After 36 years, he retired from Delco Electronics (General Motors) in 2001. In addition to working full time, he also farmed his childhood homestead and cared for the home, preserving its legacy for his family’s future.

A man of diverse interests, Bob was a devoted Christian and longtime member of Aroma United Methodist Church, a proud member of the Quincy Masonic Lodge, and a skilled ham radio operator known by the call sign WA9TZT. He was a lifetime member of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and a first adopter of many technologies. Additionally, he had a passion for photography, reading, continually learning, and had a diverse taste in music (anywhere from the Boston Pops to The Carpenters and Johnny Cash). He also enjoyed his neighbors and being a part of the local farming community.

Bob approached life with a sense of adventure, enjoying travel and road trips. He had a quirky sense of humor and straightforward honesty. To know Bob was to know a man who lived authentically, whose gruff exterior hid a deeply kind and gentle soul. Bob will be remembered for his honesty, generosity, and a deep love for his family.

Bob is survived by three children, William E. (Laura) Legg of Elwood, Jennifer Habayeb of Fishers, and Amy (Chad) Utz of Carmel; three grandchildren, Abigail Habayeb, Katherine Utz, and Quinn Utz; two sisters, Sara (Ron) Gallatin of Tipton, and Judy Roseth of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews. Bob is preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Wilma Bannon, Mary Wade, William O. Legg, and Barbara Mitten; and grandson, Jonathan Legg.

A funeral service celebrating Bob’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 11, 2026 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Danny Gulden of Geist Christian Church officiating and will include a Masonic Memorial. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation for family members and friends will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the service on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Quincy Masonic’s Elwood Angel Fund (providing school supplies for local underprivileged children) through the funeral home or to WFYI PBS.
