Obituary

Robert L. "Bob" Shawhan, Jr., age 69 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, died Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Community Hospital in Anderson following an extended illness. He was born April 11, 1945 in Elwood, the son of Robert L. and Vera A. (Foley) Shawhan, Sr. He worked for more than 20 years as a fine wire drawer at Woods Wire Company in Carmel. Bob also worked at the Elwood Call-Leader and the Tipton Tribune newspapers. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served his country during the Vietnam War. He married Phyllis Kemp on May 26, 1977. Bob was an avid golfer, loved to fish, and enjoyed being with his family. He was a member of the Alexandria Eagles Lodge #1771 and a the American Legion. Bob will be remembered as a very active and loving person who truly loved his family, people, and life.

Bob's family includes his wife of more than 37 years, Phyllis (Kemp) Shawhan of Elwood; 2 sons, Jason Shawhan and Brian Shawhan both of Elwood; grandson, Bruce Ours of Elwood; father-in-law, Robert L. Kemp of Elwood; aunts, Bernice Green of Elwood, Mary Jane (husband Bob) Ebert of Elwood, Betty Foley of Washington State; and Ester Knight of Noblesville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack Shawhan; and 2 sisters, Barbara Bishop and Lori Parton.

Services celebrating Bob's life will held at 1:00 PM on October 18, 2014 at Zion Chapel Church in Elwood. Online condolences to the Shawhan family may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
