Robert L. "Bob" Heflin, age 83 of Elwood, died Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood. He was born May 20, 1930 in Tipton County, the son of Oscar "Roy" and Mary (Newcomb) Heflin. Bob retired from the Maintenance Department of Continental Can Corporation in Elwood in 1987 after 41 years of service. He was a 1948 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School. On March 18, 1950, Bob married Elizabeth "Liz" Arnold. He was formerly a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Elwood and a member of the Elwood Eagles Lodge. Bob was an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed golfing and was former member of the Elwood Country Club.


Bob's family includes 4 children, Christine M. (husband Robert) Brewer of Tuscon, AZ., Robert B. Heflin of Fishers, Terry L (wife Judy) of Berne, and Pamela S.(husband Michael) Merryman of Elwood; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and step-great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of more than 45 years, Elizabeth "Liz" Heflin who died in 1995; 2 sisters, Kathleen Lynas and Ruby Crull; grandson, Craig Brewer; and granddaughter, Megan Heflin.


A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 14, 2014 at New Lancaster Cemetery in Tipton County with Rev. Bill Johnston of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church through the funeral home.
