Robert F. "Bob" Terwilliger , age 92 of Tipton, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2019 at I.U. / Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after complications of a stroke. He was born March 23, 1927 in rural Windfall, the son of Alton and Garnet (Decker) Terwilliger. He grew up in the Windfall community. Bob was a 1944 graduate of Windfall High School, and immediately entered into service with the U.S. Navy during World War II. During the war, Bob was Captain of the scout planes on the U.S.S. Wisconsin, and he was very proud of his service. After returning home, Bob engaged in grain and chicken farming for the remainder of his working life around 1984. Bob married Barbara "Jean" (Dooley) Cessna on March 27, 1964, and they shared over 55 years together. He enjoyed many hobbies through the years including Ham Radio where his handle was "K9GVW", flying planes, pen making, boating in Florida, and especially woodworking in his well-equipped wood shop. Bob and Jean spent many enjoyable winters in Fort Myers, Florida for several years. He was a member of the Tipton Masonic Lodge, the Elwood Elks Lodge #368, and former member of Hobbs Christian Church. Bob also enjoyed watching old western movies. More than anything, he loved spending precious time with his family and all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bob's family legacy includes his wife, Barbara "Jean" Terwilliger of Tipton; 3 children, Lynn (husband Jerry) Medlin of Fort Wayne, David (wife Thuy) Terwilliger of Tipton, Lisa (husband Mark) Letsinger of Tippecanoe; 3 step-children, Vikki Cessna of Logansport, John (wife Pam) Cessna of Glenwood Springs, CO, and Scott (wife Dixie) Cessna of Tipton; 10 grandchildren, Brittany Terwilliger, Brooke Gingerich, Jennifer (husband Jeff) Deraway, Lindsay Medlin (Mike), Brandon Cessna, Chelsie (husband Tom) Conner, Kristin Letsinger, James (wife Bri) Letsinger, Dannielle Letsinger, Michaela Fiore-Ruger; 10 great-grandchildren, Parker, Jack, Oliver, Charlotte, Adeline, Eli, Ellie, Levi, Logan, and A.J. Bob was preceded in death by both his parents.
A funeral service celebrating Bob's life will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Dr. Robb Roloff of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tipton, officiating. The funeral will begin with a Tipton Masonic Lodge memorial ritual. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy and the Elwood V.F.W. honor guard. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor's choice though the funeral home.
