Obituary

Robert David "Bob" Gunning, age 82 of rural Fairmount, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following extended health issues, but a very full life.  He was born June 9, 1935 in Elwood, the son of Guy and Mildred (Hutcherson) Gunning.  Bob was a 1953 graduate of Windfall High School, and he later served his country in the U.S. Army while stationed on active duty in Germany.  He was a farmer all of his life, owning and operating the Robert Gunning Farm in Grant and Tipton Counties until his retirement in 2012.  Bob married Ann Leisure on July 12, 1963, and they shared over 54 years of marriage together.  He was a charter member of the former Liberty-Green Lions Club.  Bob especially enjoyed reading publications about current farming industry news, and still enjoyed staying connected to farming.  He was well known for his sense of humor, and always had time for a good joke.  More than anything, Bob loved to spend time watching his grandchildren in their various sports activities.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bob's family legacy includes his wife, Ann (Leisure) Gunning of Fairmount; 2 sons, David (wife Angela) Gunning of Fairmount and Mark (wife Lisa) Gunning of Upland; sister, Bonnie Keller Muncie; brother, Richard (wife Dorothy) Gunning of Elwood; 7 grandchildren, Derek Gunning, Wesley Gunning, Abbey Gunning, Luke Gunning, Marissa Gunning, Michaela Gunning, and Logan Gunning; 3 great-grandchildren, Madyson Gunning, Tate Gunning, and Bentley Gunning; special best friends, Phil Leisure and Bob Jarvis; and several nieces and nephews.  Bob was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Donna Gunning; sister, Mary Patterson; and 2 brothers-in-law, Maurice Patterson and Charles Keller.

A funeral service celebrating Bob's life and legacy will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. John Lenfestey of Jones Chapel Church, officiating.  Burial will following in Knox Chapel Cemetery in Grant County, and will include military honors by the U.S. Army and Elwood V.F.W. Honor Guard teams.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 3 to 8 PM on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Jones Chapel Church through the funeral home.  Online expressions of condolence may be posted at copherfeslermay.com.
