Robert E. "Bob" Barr , age 83 of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Ascension / St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis following an extended illness. He was born October 5, 1938 in Peru, Indiana, the son of William E. and Genevie M. (Hoff) Barr. Bob was a 1956 graduate of Peru High before serving his country in the U.S. Army and the Army Corps of Engineers 5 th Division from 1958 to 1961. He later attended Ivy Tech College for certification in manufacturing quality control. Bob worked at Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo for over 37 years and retired in 2002 after 30 years of service in the quality control division. Bob married the love of his life, Mary Ann Bomholt on June 25. 1966, and they shared over 55 years of marriage together.
Bob was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood where he enjoyed serving on the Community Dinner committee for several years. He was also a member of the U.A.W. Union in Kokomo and the Edward Jones Investment Club in Elwood. Bob was a well-respected coach of girl's softball and Little League baseball for many years while his children were active in the sports. He especially enjoyed working in his yard, caring for his home, gardening, woodworking in his garage, and fishing with his family. More than anything, Bob's family and grandchildren were the joy of his life. In addition to being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; Bob will be remembered as someone who never hesitated to lend a hand or help others around him. He will be truly missed.
Bob's family legacy includes his wife, Mary Ann Barr of Elwood; 4 children, Lisa (Steve) Voigt of Anderson, Cheryl (Rick) Davis of Wilmington, NC, Rob (Denise) Barr of Brighton, MI, and Carrie (Elijah) Ramey of Bloomfield; brother, William (Delcina) Barr of Peru; half-sister, Mary Boyles of Peru; 8 grandchildren, Hailey Hughes, Samantha Filbin, Emily Barr, Nicholas Barr, Lauren Terry, Savannah Davis, Addison Ramey, and Caleb Ramey; 3 great-grandchildren, Greyson Hughes, Kailee Robertson, and Paisley Terry; 2 brothers-in-law, Mike (Judy) Bomholt of Elwood and Jerry (June Dee) Bomholt of Portland; and several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings, Marion Barr, Etta Boyles, Howard Barr, an infant brother, and infant sister.
A funeral mass will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at St. Joseph Church with Father Dennis Goth officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Elwood and will include military honors by the U.S. Military and Elwood V.F.W. honor guard. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, April 18, 2022 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood and will include a 6:30 pm Rosary Service led by Jerry Bomholt. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Church Building Fund. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
