Robert Lee "Bob" Bannon , age 84 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following an extended illness. He was born Jan. 14, 1941 in Elwood, the son of Robert Leroy and Lillie Naomi (Alexander) Bannon. Bob was a 1959 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served from 1961 to 1964. Bob married the love of his life, Judith Kay Harris, on March 15, 1964, and they shared over 60 years of marriage together.
Bob retired from Delco Electronics in Kokomo in March 1993 after working in production for over 32 years. After retirement, he enjoyed driving a semi for several local companies for another 7 years. Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elwood. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, U.A.W. #292 in Kokomo, and the Elwood Bass Club. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, and bowling on Thursday night leagues at Wells Lanes for many years. In recent years, he was known for regularly solving cross-word puzzles.
Bob's family includes his wife, Judith K. Bannon of Elwood; 3 children, Jodi (husband Perry) Fague of Indianapolis, DeeAnn Spencer of Elwood, and Mike Bannon of Elwood; 5 grandchildren, Donald (wife Allison) Fague, Matthew Spencer, Marcus Spencer, Natalie Bannon, and Corey Warner; 7 great-grandchildren, Matison, Owen, Levi, Lorelae, Alex, Halle, and Landon. Bob was preceded in death by both his parents.
Bob's wishes were to be cremated. A committal service will be held at a future date at the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum with Pastor Marc Cruea of the First Baptist Church officiating. Entombment will follow. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and the Elwood V.F.W. at the mausoleum.
