Richard H.
"Richie" Poe
Sep 18, 1946 — Jan 20, 2020
Richard H. "Richie" Poe, II , age 73 of Tipton, passed away peacefully with his mother and sister by his side on Monday, January 20, 2020 at I.U. Health – Tipton Hospital in Tipton following a long, full life. He was born September 18, 1946 in Marion, Indiana, the son of Richard H. Poe and Rosa R. (Smithson) Poe. He later gained a wonderful step-father when Rosa married Roy Roby in 1960. Richie had special needs from an early age, but he overcame his disabilities with a happy attitude and a regular routine. He formerly lived in Michigan and Indianapolis before settling into Millers Merry Manor several years ago, and he loved living at Millers. He worked at a developmental services company in Indianapolis for a short time, but preferred to spend time to himself on most days. Richie loved the staff at the facility and enjoyed his routine of visiting residents and staff for his "treat" round on a regular basis. He especially enjoyed playing cards, working puzzles, watching westerns on TV, listening to music, and "dancing" from his wheelchair. Richie had a very special bond with the staff at Millers, and he truly enjoyed special music performances during the holidays at the facility. Richie's family would like to thank the staff of Millers Merry Manor and I.U. Health – Tipton Hospital for the outstanding care they provided for Richie. Their loving care will not be forgotten.
Richie's family includes his loving mother, Rosa R. Roby of Elwood; 5 siblings, Steven (wife Marcia) Poe of Greenwood, Gregory Poe of Elwood, John (wife Diane) Poe of Loganville, GA, Jeff (wife Joyce) Poe of Elwood, and Beth (Mark) Melvin of Elwood; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard H. Poe and step-father, Roy M. Roby.
A Life Celebration gathering and visitation will be held from 2 to 6 pm on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Cremation will take place, and burial will take place privately with the family at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
