Richard R. McQuitty, age 86 and formerly a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away on Christmas Day at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville surrounded by his family after a full, well-lived life. He was born July 11, 1929 in Elwood, the son of Harold R. and Beatrice L. (Evans) McQuitty. Richard retired in July of 1991 as a Line Supervisor at Indiana-Michigan Power Company after 37½ years of service. He was a 1948 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School, and soon after married the love of his life, Barbara L. Wells on November 12, 1948. Richard was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Elwood and a member of both the Elwood Elks Lodge #368 and the Fifty-Plus Club. He and Barbara enjoyed traveling, and had visited 49 U.S. states over many years of traveling. Richard was an avid woodworker, and had made wooden light bases for St. Clair Glass for over 20 years. More than anything, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Richard's living family includes 3 sons, Timothy (wife Kathleen) McQuitty of Mesa, AZ, Charles (wife Susan) McQuitty of Farmland, and Jeffrey (wife Candice) McQuitty of Noblesville; 6 grandchildren, Jody McQuitty, Karmen McQuitty, Kevin (wife Robin)McQuitty, Adrianne McQuitty, Lindsay McQuitty, and Nathan McQuitty; 6 great-grandchildren, Daulton McQuitty, Brayden McQuitty, Landon McQuitty, Camryn McQuitty, Noah Gordon, and Zahra Dock; and brother-in-law, Donald (wife Alice) Wells of Barnhart, MO. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 62 years, Barbara McQuitty in 2011.
Funeral services celebrating Richard's life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Jennifer Charles officiating. Entombment will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Copher-Fesler- May Funeral Home.
