Obituary

Richard L. "Dick" Hardman, Sr., age 85 and formerly of Elwood, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 25, 2022 at his daughter's home in Upland.  He was born February 12, 1937 in Winchester, the son of Robert E. Hardman and Ada (Roser) Twig.  After high school graduation, Dick proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for two years and was stationed in Germany.  He married Sherry C. Bear on June 17, 1978 and they shared over 35 years of marriage together before her passing in 2014.  Richard worked for Pepsi Corporation in Muncie as a Vendor Mechanic for 40 years.  He was a member of New Hope Christian Church and the Matthews Lions Club.  Dick especially enjoyed fishing, woodworking, crafts, and mowing his yard.  During the fall, he also enjoyed working at the Covered Bridge Festival every year.  More than anything, Dick enjoyed spoiling all his grandchildren and spending time with his family.

Dick's family legacy includes 2 daughters, Tammy Bonar of Fort Wayne and Deborah (Joe) Harris of Upland; 2 step-daughters, Ginger (Paul) Silver-Christian of Charlotte, N.C. and Christina (Paul) Engle of Pennsylvania; an adopted daughter, Amy Dulworth; 4 sisters, Bette (Jack) Stahley of Ohio, Barbara James of Hudson, Carolyn Hartley of Alexandria, and Linda Hardman of Muncie; 5 grandchildren, Tara, Todd, Nicholas, Joey, and Brock; 8 step-grandchildren, Shawn, Steven, A.J., Bethany, Paul, Michael, Aubrey, Dominic; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; special friends, the Rock family, Jerry Marcum, Bob Decker, Jerry Moss and Vicki Rule; and several nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; son,  Richard Hardman, II; step-mother, Mary Catherine Hardman, step-father, Waldo Twig; grand-daughter, Amber Hutchens; 2 brothers James Hardman and Michael Hardman, son-in-law, Jesse James; and longtime friend, Bertie Finster.

A funeral service celebrating Richard's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 31, 2022 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Dick's former pastor, Charlie Finster, officiating.  Entombment will follow the funeral in Beech Grove Cemetery Mausoleum in Muncie.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the funeral on Monday at Copher-Fesler-May funeral Home.  Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
